Learning the
Cyrillic Alphabet

Welcome to Tony's restaurant tester

The idea of this game is to pretend that you are alone in a Bulgarian restaurant and you're about to order food, you look at the menu to find that everything is written in Cyrillic. This does not scare you as there are pictures within the menu so you are able to look at the food that's on offer. Using your pen and paper you decide to convert the Cyrillic to Latin so that you can tell the waiter what you would like to eat.

Spread over the next several pages is a menu that I have created. This menu is a typical sort of menu that you are likely to find within a Bulgarian restaurant. This menu is split into three sections - salads (starters), mains and deserts. Using this menu chose one starter, one main dish and one desert that you would like to eat, then convert the Cyrillic to Latin. Once you have done this, practise the words aloud as if you were talking to the waiter. If you wish to check that you have the pronunciation correct then please check the answer section at the end.

Have you already played the game? If you have and you would like to practise your skills away from the site you can. Simply click here as I have made the character tables and menu available via this PDF.
