When I first started to learn Cyrillic I was completely lost. I thought that nothing looks familiar and how on earth does this make sense. I then took a closer look at the characters of the alphabet and I noticed that some of the letters looked exactly like the Latin ones. I then discovered that some of them look the same but sound completely different. This is why it is important to start at the basics so that your brain can adapt to the change in a way.
A table of the similar characters along with the Cyrillic and Latin representations can be found below. Please be advised that this table has been adapted from the one found at Bulgaria life.com.
I have also added the sounds of the characters via the help of my Bulgarian girlfriend. If you would like to listen to the sound of a character, please select the corresponding sound icon in the table below.
